Dining table, 1991. Completed as part of my Honours year, BFA University of Tasmania. Tasmanian myrtle, black poplar, welded and polished aluminium plate.

I love how this is divided up, referencing Chinese and Japanese cabinets, yet slightly off kilter, making the pattern of the escutcheons delightful. Rosewood with a black stand and brass feet.

Was fortunate to be of interest to Rob Williams who is documenting local makers. Looking at the photograph I realise how much it reflects my location in Queensland, the intense bright sky, the two wall mounted fans, and the opposing roller doors to catch the breeze.

Oak-veneered wood, oak, parchment, leather and brass.

Trained as an architect, he used beautiful materials and made furniture for a small very wealthy clientele. Inspired by cubism, his work is completely modern with little reference to past forms of decoration. He never exhibited publicly, though he did create a number of designs which were produced by Hermés.

Test fit of the Hoop pine insert. I like the contrast with the blackwood.
